Outfit: Combining Over-the-Knee Boots

Outfit: Combining Over-the-Knee Boots

This is my first fashion entry ever on this blog and I think that I should talk a bit about my personal style first, before I go into detail of this outfit!

I consider my style as casual chic. It has been for as long as I can remember. I used to live in NYC (before moving to LA in 2010) where I had to rely on public transport and cabs to get around and to get to castings. Running around in heels all day was a no-go. Besides, I'm 5'10 and I don't really like to emphasize my height by wearing high heels - at least not during the day. I had to look stylish and presentable, but I wanted to be comfortable at the same time. And so, I've acquired the 'casual chic' and the 'upscale casual' look for myself.

I'm a minimalist. I prefer a simple outfit which can handle a bunch of accessories. Over-the-knee boots are perfect for that. Why? Because the simplicity of the outfit gives these stunners the "wow" effect they deserve.

I'm in love with my suede over the knee boots. But finding the perfect pair and combining this look without looking like "you're trying too hard" isn't so easy. These boots, which were a gift from my very fashion savvy mother in law called Petra, are just perfect! The soft suede gives them an elegant touch and softens the look. They have a low heel and are very comfortable to walk in.

When adding accessories, it's important not to overload an outfit. Less is more. Or you end up looking like a Christmas tree rather then the confident, casual chic girl you intended to be. Find a way to combine and match materials. For example, the belt that I'm wearing here has the same suede optic as the boots. The belt buckle compliments the hardware of my purse and the gold jewelry I'm wearing. The hat with its felt fabric picks up on the soft feel of my boots and the belt.

I believe in the 2/3 rule. That is the amount of skin that should be covered when wearing thigh high boots. I like to show just enough skin by wearing shorts. Plus a simple long sleeve top is just right and will keep you looking effortless and classy.

The black trench coat adds a touch of coolness and is the perfect finish to complete this look.
